Life and Work..Not a Balancing Act but Synchronicity

It has come to my attention over the years that in business and in life we attempt to find the balance. I have come to disagree with this understanding of how or rather what we attempt to do to have both, and have them in proportion to one another. Let me further explain. In attempting to balance one with the other, and because this may not be possible, you end up with resentment toward one or the other. However, our creative capacity as to the how of getting things done remains in the growing stages as we learn about the technology available to us.  I believe the answer, instead of trying to find the balance of one and the other, in work and life is to synchronize.

What is synchronicity? Wikipedia says the following: Synchronicity is the experience of two or more events that are apparently causally unrelated or unlikely to occur together by chance, yet are experienced as occurring together in a meaningful manner. The concept does not question, or compete with, the notion of causality. Instead it maintains that, just as events may be grouped by cause, they may also be grouped by meaning. A grouping of events by meaning need not have an explanation in terms of cause and effect.

Based on the above definition you can begin to see that work and life are not causally unrelated! Let’s look again to see how Wikipedia defines causality: Causality (also referred to as causation[1]) is the relationship between an event (the cause) and a second event (the effect), where the second event is understood as a consequence of the first.[2]

We go to work because it affects our life or rather the lifestyle we are afforded to live, therefore instead of categorizing one and then the other, in an effort to provide balance, I suggest creatively figuring out how to synchronize one with the other. As we open our hearts to this concept, the ideas will begin to flow. I am not suggesting that you take your child or spouse to work with you, but as the creative juices begin to flow, there are probably more opportunities than at first realized.

Open your heart to the idea of synchronizing work and life, and no longer accept the idea that things must be done as they always have been.

I see the light bulb coming on already! LOL
